Choosing Colors for Your Home
Colors have a strong influence on us. They can change our moods or have a stimulating or blocking effects. Each color triggers different reactions. At home, it is important to choose the right colors to give your rooms that special something and provide the right feeling of cosiness. The wrong color can spoil a space.
Most of the information that humans get comes from our eyes. Gor this reason, it isn't surprising that people have always occupied themselves with colors. This is true for scientists as well as artists. Lately, psychologists have also shown an interest in colors and their effects.
Throughout history there have been many people who have tried to arrange colors into a system. One of the first was Leonardo da Vinci. In the 15th century, he co-founded of the theory of color.
The famous physicist Isaac Newton investigated colors in the 18th century. He directed light rays through a prism to show the three basic colors.
Artists are also interested in color theory. Johann Wolfgang von Goethe designed a theory using six basic colors that has been the basis for many more color theories.
Today red, yellow and blue are set as the primary colors. All other secondary and tertiary colors can be derived from these colors.

- do not use in rooms where you want to rest
Green
- soothes and balances
- has a relaxing effect
- very good for the bathroom, rooms for studying and creativity
Turquoise / Cyan blue
- stronger than blue alone
- firm, compressing
- creates cool distance
Blue
- calm, serious, cool and clean
- soothes and relaxes
- perfect for the bedroom
- makes small rooms feel larger
- blue areas feel cool
Violet
- a mystical and uplifting color
- soothes and promotes emotional stability
- with white, it gives a room an elegant and noble touch
Brown
- earthy warm, balancing and provides security
- gives a natural and rustic character
- can be used in almost every room
Black
- dramatic and mysterious
- too much black looks heavy and gloomy
- perfect in combination with white and gray
